The Business Value of Proper Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility csr is the concept that that a corporations responsibilities include other stakeholders and includes other responsibilities above and beyond a return for shareholders. These responsibilities include legal ethical and philanthropic responsibilities in addition to economic responsibilities trevino and nelson 2005 p. 31. Other stakeholders could include employees suppliers the customers the community and others. Types of responsibilities the corporation may hold beyond a return for shareholders could include protecting and or improving the environment where the company operates improving conditions for the community where the company resides etc…corporate governance refers the way in which the corporation governs itself. Governance includes the way the company reports earnings pays directors etc… Recognizing that improper governance can have huge consequences for employees and shareholders the government requires corporations to follow corporate governance laws and guidelines that are designed to reduce the risk of fraud and financial ruins such as those that caused the demise of corporations like enron worldcom and global crossing.solid corporate governance that protects investors and employees from accounting fraud conflict of interest etc. can be seen as a part of any company that is acting socially responsible. Because a csr company is acting in a way above and beyond what is required of it by law to protect stakeholders in the company solid corporate governance of a csr oriented company could be viewed as a way in which the company can ensure that the interests of many directly related and dependent on the company can be protected including employees customers the communities that depend on tax revenues and employment etc… Solid corporate governance can be seen as an essential first step of any csr oriented company. Without it it risks conflict of interest of its board members ceo uncertain financial and accounting practices and other risks which could have devastating negative impacts on all stakeholders. For example enrons collapse due to failure of corporate governance to prevent fraud and deceit hurt thousands of employees the community of houston where most employees lived the tax revenues that supported public works the effect on families and couples who lost retirement savings health insurance coverage etc… In fact before enrons accounting fraud became known many would have considered enron a solid socially responsible citizen because of its much recognized funding of museums hospitals and many other organizations in the community where they operated p. 163. However all the communities would have been better off in the long run if enron had never contributed a dime to these social responsible activities but had rather provided solid corporate governance over its internal operations. If enron had done this thousands would not have lost jobs communities would have maintained higher tax revenues retirements would have been more secured for thousands health insurance would have been secured by many more returns would have been higher for investors and shareholders etc…corporate governance should be seen as a top priority of any company seeking to be a good corporate citizen. More good can be done by a company ensuring solid corporate governance than other activates usually seen as important for socially conscious organizations. Furthermore more pressure should be exerted on organizations to establish good social governance than should be exerted on companies to sponsor other socially responsible activities and stakeholders in communities the press the government etc. should also recognize and applaud companies who may put more effort on corporate governance although they may lack other social activities. Governance should be seen ad rewarded as the top priority.referencestrevino l. and nelson k. 2005. Corporate social responsibility and managerial ethics. Hoboken nj john wiley and sons inc.

Breast Enlargement for Men - 3 Proven Methods on Growing Male Breasts

There are many breast enlargement for men techniques that claim to create natural looking breasts. However not all of these techniques are safe and some may leave you with heavy scars and a much lighter checkbook. Lets explore the different breast enlargement for men techniques that are currently available.natural supplements are by far the safest way to achieve breast enlargement for men. There are numerous available supplements that contain proprietary blends of natural herbs that work to increase the amount of natural breast tissue that you already have. Mammorex and bust fuel are the two most popular brands that work for men as well as women.this method of breast enlargement for men relies on herbs such as saw palemetto and greek fennel that are known to increase the amount of breast tissue. They work by targeting estrogen to the chest area effectively increasing the cells within the tissue. Over time usually a few months this leads to a growth of one to three cup sizes.bust fuel has been cited as being incredibly effective in breast enlargement for men. Although their primary market is women they have had several male customers report significant results. You can contact the company directly for more information and testimonials from other men.chest massage and chest exercises are also ways to achieve breast enlargement for men. The results for these options are generally less than natural supplements but they can help provide a better overall tone to the chest. They are by fare more effective when combined with herbal treatments like mammorex.your other option is breast enhancement surgery. Like all surgeries this is potentially dangerous and can leave you with lasting scars. The main problem for men that take this route is that the implants end up looking very un-natural. This is due to the fact that men have a lot less flesh on their chests than women. There is just not enough skin to stretch over the implants. This creates a very hard and round look that is not appealing.the side effects of surgical methods for breast enlargement for men are high. They include the possibility of having the skin on your chest split simply because there is not enough skin to cover the implants. This leaves you with massive scarring and you run the risk of dying from the complications. Other side effects are in line with other surgical procedures. The main downside for many is the overall cost of implants especially when compared to natural herbal supplements like mammorex.although your results may not be instant the best route to take for breast enlargement for men is the natural way. Herbal supplements that are proven to work are much less risky than going under the knife and a lot less expensive. When taken properly the results can be very significant even if it takes a little bit longer to get there. When it comes to your health you cant take unnecessary chances.

Retirees and Clutter - Some Thoughts

I never cease to be amazed by some of the unique characteristics of clutter. For some reason clutter is often associated with the homes and workplaces of retirees or seniors. We have all heard stories and read accounts of elderly people who live in tumble-down houses filled with unbelievable amounts of clutter. This is not however a universal characteristic of retirees.so what are the essential characteristics of clutter here are a few that come to mind at the moment- clutter takes many shapes and is composed of many items- clutter has the inherent property of expanding to fill all available space- clutter is generally collective - it builds up over time- clutter is generally composed of items we believe we must continue to keep- clutter is composed of items we believe to be important for some reason- clutter is generally composed of items we have not used in years- clutter is often composed of items we cannot find- clutter is often made up of things we actually dont need- clutter can be dangerous for retirees- clutter is hard to removelets face it. At some point in time everything that makes up clutter was important to us. What we do with it and how long we keep it is often directly proportional to the sentimental or emotional value we attach to it. For example some of us keep every memento of every activity shared with a loved one. Others keep some souvenir of meaningful travel destinations. Some keep newspapers or magazines. And some of us are collectors gone wild.we all know clutter in our homes can be dangerous - it can pose a fire hazard or a tripping or stumbling hazard especially as it expands to mega-proportions. We hear so many stories of retirees who are victims of home fires who fall and break fragile bones or who fall and get a serious head injury. For these reasons alone de-cluttering is a really smart move for retirees.clutter can also be emotional mental or psychological. This kind of clutter can often be most difficult to clean out of our lives. This kind of clutter distracts us or re-enforces negative self-images or continues to reopen old wounds. This kind of clutter makes us feel unhappy stressed out angry or even guilty.while the physical clutter around us might be more noticeable to others it is easier to remove. It just takes determination and a realistic appraisal of the value of things. Clearing out old animosities guilt sorrow and pain however is even more important if we really want to enjoy the second stage of our lives.my advice to all retirees who want to experience a feeling of a new freedom and a fresh outlook on life is de-clutter. Start with the stuff that is cluttering your environment. If something has real value but you dont need to keep it give it to someone who will appreciate its value.remind yourself that if you havent used or read something in over a year you dont need it. A first step is to get rid of anything you have been saving to which you have access on the internet. This for example is a great way to get rid of stacks or boxes of newspapers magazines and the like. A little de-cluttering will give you a great sense of freedom and space. Its a wonderful feeling.start de-cluttering your psyche. Deal with unresolved guilt make apologies make peace.
Put old animosities and anger to rest - recognize it ask yourself if it really matters any longer move beyond it. Deal with old sorrows and pain. Make the decision to put them to rest.finally you can start the fun part of de-cluttering your mind. Make a list of all the ideas and activities you have stored up to do someday. Prioritize your list. Discard those things that just are not that important any longer. And make a plan to do the things you still want to do.de-cluttering will give you a new sense of freedom focus and direction. Your home will also be much safer.

The Ethics Dilemma

In justice gomerys final report he observed that only a handful of government officials failed to live up to ethical standards in the sponsorship program. Most of us in business or government have faced situations where our personal principles have come under attack yet unlike that handful we successfully resisted temptation. Further some of us may have faced personal risk standing up for our convictions taking responsibility and holding ourselves accountable for our actions.but is there a point where we might start to bend or even break as they dida 2005 global study of over 1100 managers and executives commissioned by the american management association with which canadian management centre is affiliated identified the top three factors most likely to cause business people to compromise ethical standards. All three impact most of us from time to time so it would be an unusual person who would not have experienced temptation. The factors in order are1. Pressure to meet unrealistic business objectivesdeadlines 2. Desire to further ones career 3. Desire to protect ones livelihoodso here is a theory. Model the dynamics that put pressure on peoples ethics and you have an early warning of possible problems.dynamic a is pressure. Sometimes the pressure to compromise comes at a person externally on vectors such as urgent timing i dont care what the policy book says i need your decision now. Entrenched opposition that can be avoided hr wont find out till it is too late superiors or colleagues if you dont do this well all pay a price critical impact national unity is at stake here competitors tactics competition gives them money under the table. We have no choice.any single one of these let alone a combination can isolate a person on ethical grounds.dynamic b is personal benefit. Even scrupulous people generally look at choices through a lens of self-interest that includes financial gain financial risk reputation career and stature power and influencethe greater the personal upside or downside associated with a decision the more internal pressure will build to compromise on honesty and ethics.when you buy a house from a vendor with hundreds of thousands of dollars and their personal life plan at stake who is represented by a commissioned salesperson you know it is wise to get a home inspection done. Buying a used car take it to a mechanic you trust first. Interviewing a job applicant who is currently out-of-work check references.these are commonplace small town daily examples of a recognized need for safeguards against unethical behaviour by ordinary people when pressure and self-interest intersect. We understand the need to watch out at that level. But when we learn that a handful of the participants in multi-million dollar transactions in the colossally critical and legacy-charged national unity debate behaved badly we have the right to be dismayed but not surprised.millions of dollars spent on the gomery inquiry has yielded recommendations the country is glad to see. In the clear absence of a sense of personal accountability the only solution is a body of constraints. But there is a danger now that associated bureaucracy will inflict cumbersome and stultifying rules and procedures on transactions in the matrixs green low risk boxes. These transactions have neither materiality nor external pressure nor sufficient personal benefit to the buyer or seller to pose much of a risk.as an example of unnecessary procedure in one recent situation canadian management centre was presented with a complicated federal government rfp that would have required us to invest days of preparation and would require the government people days of due diligence — all for a 6000 contract. We declined to pursue the rfp. There was no pressure and only incidental benefit not enough justification to warrant the trouble of proving our qualifications beyond the shadow of a doubt
